FAQ

Questions about crypto fees

What is the true cost of buying crypto?

It is everything you pay between your money and the coins arriving in your wallet: the trading fee, the spread above the market price, deposit or card fees, currency conversion and the withdrawal fee, which includes the network fee.

Why is the cheapest trading fee not always the cheapest exchange?

Spreads, card fees and withdrawal fees often cost more than the trading fee itself. An exchange with a 0.1% trading fee can end up more expensive than one with 0.4% once a card deposit and a withdrawal are added.

How does TrueCost rank exchanges?

Only by the estimated total cost of your exact transaction. Affiliate commissions never change the order, and sponsored placements, if any, are shown separately and labelled.

What happens when a fee is unknown?

The exchange is not ranked. It is listed separately with the missing fee named, because treating an unknown fee as zero would make it look cheaper than it is.

Which withdrawal network is cheapest?

It depends on the coin and the exchange. Networks such as Tron, Solana, Base or Lightning are usually far cheaper than Ethereum mainnet or Bitcoin on-chain, but the receiving wallet must support the same network.
